God’s Health Plan
When I think of health what do you think of? I have to go to the scripture to find passages on how we are to follow God’s will for our health and well-being. One scripture found in 3 John 1:2 states,
“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” Matthew Henry’s concise commentary states, “Those who are in Christ, would love the brother in for his sake. Soul prosperity is the greatest blessing on this side of heaven. Grace and health are rich companions. Grace will employ health. A rich soul so may be lodged in a weak body; Grace must then be exercised (3 John 1-3).”
There is a parallel between your spiritual man and your natural man.
Exercise is also a key component. Exercise makes an activity requiring physical efforts, carried out specially to sustain or improve health and fitness. We have to keep our bodies moving in motion. It was designed not to be lazy but to be active. Our bodies have been defined as a temple that houses the presence of God. We sometimes abuse the temple or this house that God has given to us by putting things into our system that does not benefit us health wise.
To exercise not only means to move your body, you need to exercise your mind, body, and soul to get the ultimate results to live a healthy and balanced life. Ephesians 5:29 says, “After all no one ever hated their body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church.” It is important that we have proper nutrition. Nutrition is the process of providing or obtaining the food necessary for health and growth. I understand why the scripture was so descriptive in its context. I wish above all things that Mayest prosper, be in health, even as thy soul prospers. Maintaining good health depends on what you place inside your body.
Equally, you must nourish your spiritual body to maintain good health. Therefore, you must be careful what you place inside of your spiritual body. The Bible says in 3 John 2, “Dear Friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.
A quote from Thomas Fuller states, “Health is not valued till sickness comes.”
We learned that the value of life is so important that we have one shot at life so don’t waste it.
There is a promise that God has given to us. That he wishes above all things that you will prosper, be in good health, even as your soul prospers. So take care of the vessel that God has loaned us for the time that we have left on this earth. If you take care of your vessel, it will take care of you.
